About VAM

About the club:
With around 90 members, the Valley Aero Modelers is one of the larger model airplane clubs in Wisconsin.  The club meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month starting at 6pm and usually lasting until 7:30pm.  See the event calendar for more information.  The club has several instructors who are available to teach beginners. This instruction is offered free of charge by these members, in the spirit of promoting the hobby to newcomers.  Even club members who are not dedicated instructors are always willing to lend a hand and offer advice to beginners.
New and prospective members are always invited to attend the monthly meetings, and everyone is always welcome to stop by the field and check out the action for themselves!  New members are always welcome to join.  The club does require all members to hold a current membership with the AMA.

Club members come from all walks of life and ages although the membership has a larger number of senior citizens than youngsters.  The club endeavors to be a positive influence in the community by:

  • Training young people in model building and flying skills
  • Giving talks to community groups
  • Advising scout groups on modeling activities
  • Volunteering their time to the EAA during their annual convention
The Valley Aero Modelers club is a charter club of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, a national organization that insures its members and its clubs.  It provides basic safety rules, rules for flying competitions among members as well as promotes the sport. In addition to several annual contests, the Valley Aero Modelers conduct a yearly spring swap meet.  Our flying site is Quarry Field.
